Hiroshi Taikai, nicknamed Hiro, is a spirited boy whose discovery of a golden lighter awakens Gold Lightan, a sentient robot. Together, they lead the "Bratty Rangers" to thwart King Ivalda’s invasion of Earth. Hiro thrives in physical challenges, mastering skateboarding, soccer, baseball, martial arts, and acrobatics—skills he uses to clash with Ivalda’s forces, including sword duels against foes like General Saiyokka. Though academically competent, he prioritizes action over studies unless sufficiently motivated.

His family runs "Motor," an auto repair shop and junkyard owned by his father, alongside his younger sister, Ohina. Hiro shares a golden retriever, Chibi, and navigates a custom go-kart with precision beyond his years. A pivotal moment tests his loyalty when friend Osamu wrongly accuses him of cheating; Hiro risks his life to rescue Osamu, mending their bond.

Early drafts envisioned Hiro as "Captain" of a South Sea island survival group under the title "Naughty Squadron Abaranger," omitting Ohina and altering team roles, though these concepts never reached final production. Physically, Hiro inherits his family’s reddish-brown hair and sports an outie belly button, subtly noted in Episode 19. His leadership and combat role remain unwavering throughout the original 1981–1982 series, with no expanded lore in subsequent media.
