Description
Fonse Kagatie emerges as the central antagonist of the Universal Century timeline, a strategist born in the Jupiter Sphere whose ambitions reshaped the Earth Sphere’s political landscape. Rising from the ranks of the Jupiter Transport Fleet, he championed the creation of a Jupiter United Republic before shifting his focus to Earth. Disguising his intentions, he infiltrated the pacifist cult of Maria Pia Armonia—a Newtype revered as a messianic figure—subverting her followers to overthrow Earth-aligned governance in Side 2 and forge the Zanscare Empire. While elevating Maria as a symbolic leader, Kagatie consolidated authority through the Gatie Party and its militant arm, BESPA, cementing his grip on power.

Driven by a belief that Earth’s overpopulation and warfare defied natural law, Kagatie orchestrated campaigns to purge the planet. His regime blended fanatical propaganda glorifying Maria’s divinity with ruthless oppression, deploying guillotine executions to crush dissent. Military operations like Operation High Roller targeted population centers such as Mexico, while scorched-earth tactics suppressed resistance.

Kagatie’s ambitions hinged on superweapons: the Keilas Guilie satellite, intended for orbital devastation but seized by enemies, and the Angel Halo, a psycommu fortress engineered to psychically obliterate Earth’s populace. To fuel the latter, he deceived Maria’s Newtype disciples into believing they broadcast peace, exploiting their collective consciousness as an energy source. The system also harnessed Maria’s young daughter, Shakti Kareen, as its core, forcing her to endure the agony of every connected mind.

His authoritarian methods bred treachery among subordinates like Tassilo Vago and Cronicle Asher, whose disillusionment mirrored broader unrest. During Angel Halo’s activation, sabotage by the League Militaire and pilot Uso Ewin triggered the weapon’s collapse. Kagatie met his end amid the chaos, confronting a spectral vision of Maria before being struck by falling debris.

The Zanscare Empire’s rapid dissolution following his death highlighted the instability of regimes rooted in fear and manipulation. Kagatie’s legacy echoes tyrants like Gihren Zabi, marked by ideological fervor, superweapon obsessions, and the catastrophic human cost of unchecked ambition.
