Description
Crocus hails from the planet Riruru, one of 245 extraterrestials stranded on Earth after a spacecraft malfunction. These small-statured beings with pointed hats founded Lilluru Village on an island near the Swiss-French border. As the granddaughter of their leader, Crocus exhibits an adventurous resilience uncommon among her cautious peers. This trait drives her independent explorations beyond the village, leading to the discovery of Marielle—a fragile human girl whose piano music captivates Crocus. Witnessing Marielle’s critical health crisis, Crocus’s emotional tears trigger Marielle’s recovery, forging an inseparable bond between them.
Their friendship blossoms through shared adventures: Crocus reveals the hidden world of Riruru citizens and the surrounding wilderness to Marielle, communicating with woodland animals and using an owl named Bo-bo for transport. Marielle introduces Crocus to human society, including her Art Academy, where Crocus is disguised as an inanimate doll to protect her secret. This secret later extends to Oscar, a peer fascinated by aliens who earns Crocus’s trust, and Grace, Marielle’s academy rival who uncovers Crocus’s true nature during a confrontation.
Separated from parents left on Riruru, Crocus was raised by her grandfather—mirroring Marielle’s loss of her mother and absent father. Their emotional dependence deepens, with Crocus’s cheerful mischief complementing Marielle’s gentle reserve. Crocus matures when Grace suffers memory loss after an accident; initially viewing it as deserved retribution, Crocus heeds her grandfather’s admonition, cultivates empathy, and aids Grace’s reconciliation with Marielle.
As the Riruru citizens prepare to return home, Marielle relapses upon learning of Crocus’s departure. To ensure Marielle’s survival, Crocus and her closest companions abandon their journey, remaining on Earth indefinitely. Crocus maintains close ties within her community, notably with Popit, who often accompanies her to visit Marielle. She sports purple hair, consistently wears a red pointed hat and red shoes, and utilizes specialized miniature Riruru technology. A documented retrospective narrative frames Marielle’s recollections of their adventures through memories tied to a significant container.
