Description
Lunlun Flower is a 15-year-old orphan raised by her paternal grandparents in the French countryside, where they run a flower shop. Her mother, a descendant of the Flower Star people, died during childbirth, and her French boat captain father succumbed to illness when she was five. Initially tomboyish and outspoken with a preference for boyish attire, she blends adventurousness with deep compassion and holds a fierce sense of justice, reacting intensely to parental neglect, dishonesty, or ingratitude.
Tasked by Flower Star messengers—a talking dog named Nouveau and a cat named Cateau—she journeys across Europe to find the legendary Seven Color Flower, which will decide the Flower Star’s next ruler. Her primary tool is a magical pin gifted by the Flower Star king; reflecting flowers in its mirror transforms her clothing into situation-appropriate outfits like mountain gear or knight armor, granting corresponding skills such as expert climbing or swordsmanship. In Switzerland, the original pin shatters during a near-fatal fall. Revived by a Flower Star spirit later revealed as Serge Flora, she receives a replacement pin bearing the royal crest and a grave warning: its loss or destruction ends her life. Its activation phrase is "Fu Flay Lu Fey Lora."
Through trials, Lunlun’s courage and resourcefulness grow, seen when confronting a raging bull without magic or rescuing hostages. Her moral convictions strengthen, particularly regarding children and familial bonds. She rejects a marriage proposal from Serge—exposed as the Flower Star prince—to care for her aging grandparents, prompting Serge to abdicate his throne and remain with her on Earth.
Antagonists Togenishia and Yabouki pursue the flower for personal ambitions, yet Lunlun aids numerous individuals during her travels. Each encounter yields seeds sent to her grandparents' garden, symbolizing life lessons learned and gifted by Serge. These seeds cultivate the Seven Color Flower, nurtured by collective kindness and resolving the Flower Star’s succession crisis.
In the OVA "Hello Cherry Country," she travels to Japan to protect cherry blossoms from pollution, demonstrating environmental advocacy. Collaborative efforts like a Dutch dance contest aiding a clog maker deepen her bond with Serge, reinforcing their mutual support and romantic resolution.
