Description
Claiomh Everlasting, also spelled Cleao in some adaptations, is the youngest daughter of Totokanta's prestigious Everlasting family. She possesses fair skin, long blonde hair, and pale blue eyes, with a distinctive disheveled fringe featuring two signature twirls of hair on each side of her head. Her attire varies across adaptations, from a long blue dress and brown shoes in the 1998 anime series to an orange dress, later replaced by a long-sleeved white shirt with blue jeans held by a brown belt buckle and brown shoes in the remake.
Sheltered within her noble household for most of her life, Claiomh developed a powerful yearning for travel and adventure beyond her home. Her personality is carefree, outgoing, and confident, marked by a tendency to tease others and a reluctance to admit fault. While earlier portrayals sometimes cast her as bratty or selfish, she possesses a brave and kind heart, coupled with an unusual interest in sorcery. She looks up to and respects Orphen, though she frequently treats him like a nuisance. A significant internal conflict stems from her inability to use sorcery, making her feel like a child who needs care rather than a reliable partner within her traveling group. This insecurity fuels her drive to prove her worth.
Her history in Totokanta felt unfulfilling; she switched schools every year and never attended the same school as her older sister, Mariabelle. Her sense of adventure ignited when Orphen arrived at her home, prompting her to secretly join his journey with her mother's permission. Throughout her travels, she persistently struggled to be recognized as a valuable member of the team despite her lack of magical ability.
A pivotal event occurred in the Fenrir Forest, where she encountered a small black puppy that was actually a Deep Dragon child. Unknowingly bonding with the cub, later named Leki, she later faced his mother, Asraliel. When the Deep Dragon threatened a village, Claiomh's angry outburst at Asraliel for endangering her own child prompted Leki to act, forcing the Deep Dragons to retreat. Leki subsequently chose to stay by Claiomh's side as her constant companion and familiar.
Her relationship with Mädchen Amick was initially contentious, as she found her pushy and dismissive. However, when Mädchen was captured and placed under mind control, Claiomh escaped to find help and ultimately destroyed the celestial doll she was trapped in, saving Mädchen's life and earning her loyalty.
Claiomh is incredibly athletic and a skilled fencer, able to hold her own in combat against opponents like Heartia disguised as Black Tiger and even topple a Golem with a single kick. She initially carried a lightweight sword from her father's collection, which was lost in an attack that destroyed her luggage. She also possesses an uncanny latent magic capacity, which she unconsciously channels through Leki as a medium. This potential was fully unlocked when Leki merged his mind with hers, releasing her magical abilities. She subsequently received formal training from Leticia McLady, completing her development in a year's time, and also becomes proficient in using firearms due to training at the Tower of Fang.
Her character development shows significant growth from a sheltered, sometimes selfish noble girl into a resilient and capable adventurer. She marries Orphen at the end of the original novel series, and they have three daughters together: Ratsbane, Edge, and Ratchet. Their firstborn, Ratsbane, later becomes the apprentice of Majic Lin.
In the 1998 anime, she was gifted the Sword of Baltanders by her father, which served as her reason for joining Orphen's journey, a detail absent in the light novels. Her portrayal in that anime also sometimes treated her more as an obstacle or comedic relief, lacking the depth and proactive help she exhibits in the source material.
Additional facts include her participation in a war club during school, a history of being sickly as a child to the point of being bedridden, an appendectomy that left a scar, and difficulties healing from bruises. She graduated school before her journey, leaving her with no obligation to return. She is also known to re-sew Majic's clothes to fit herself and use him as a test subject for various punishments intended for Orphen.
