TV-Series
Description
Cleao Everlasting, the sheltered youngest daughter of Totokanta's noble Everlasting family, chafed against her confined upbringing. Despite initial naivety, she possessed a strong adventurous spirit and dissatisfaction. Her education involved boarding schools and a war club providing basic fencing lessons, switching institutions annually to avoid attending with her sister Mariabelle.

Physically, Cleao has long blonde hair, pale blue eyes, and distinctive twirled bangs. Her attire varies: a long blue dress in the 1998 anime, an orange dress later replaced by a white shirt and jeans in the remake. Outgoing, confident, and thrill-seeking, she often displays excitability in dangerous situations. She is stubborn, dislikes admitting fault, and frequently clashes with Orphen through teasing. Underneath this lies kindness, bravery, and a strong desire to contribute meaningfully to the group’s goals.

Her journey starts when Orphen seeks the Sword of Baltanders, an artifact originally gifted by her deceased father. Insisting on accompanying him to ensure its return, driven also by a pre-existing fascination with Orphen observed near her home a year prior, she leaves her sheltered life. Initially, Cleao struggles with inadequacy as the only non-sorcerer in Orphen’s group, actively seeking to prove her value as a reliable partner and feeling frustrated when perceived as a child needing protection. Determination drives her persistence despite these insecurities.

Key events shape her development: acquiring Leki, a Deep Dragon cub, during an attack on Great Heart village. When Deep Dragon Asraliel threatens the village, Cleao intervenes by instructing Leki to repel the dragons, solidifying their bond. Leki becomes her constant companion and unconscious magical medium. In Alenhatam, she saves Orphen from a Killing Doll. Later, she rescues Mädchen from celestial doll imprisonment at Kimrak Church by destroying the doll, forcing Mädchen to aid their journey against church opposition.

Cleao's combat abilities include fencing proficiency and notable athleticism, enabling her to hold her own against skilled opponents like Heartia disguised as Black Tiger and topple golems with physical strikes. Though not a trained sorcerer, she exhibits latent magical capacity channeled unintentionally through Leki. This connection unlocks her magical potential, leading her to train under Leticia and develop sorcery skills. Her relationship with Orphen evolves from initial friction to deep mutual reliance; early arguments give way to genuine partnership fostered by consistent support and shared experiences. In the original novels, this culminates in marriage and the birth of their daughter Ratsbane.

Notable media differences exist: the novels emphasize Cleao’s earnest efforts to assist and her internal conflicts, while the 1998 anime often reduces her to comedic obstruction, omitting character depth. The Sword of Baltanders’ origin differs—gifted by her father in the anime, merely a family artifact in the novels. Additional background includes a history of childhood illness causing prolonged bed rest, an appendectomy scar, slow-healing bruises, and graduation before her journey. She habitually alters Majic’s clothing and uses him as a test subject for pranks intended for Orphen.
