Description
Vickie, alternatively called Vic or Wickie, lives in the Viking village of Flake. He is the son of village chief Halvar and Ylva. Physically frail and timid, he harbors a pronounced fear of wolves, contrasting sharply with typical Viking children. His defining trait is exceptional intelligence and problem-solving ability, which consistently compensates for his lack of physical strength. Initially underestimated by his father and the Viking crew due to his timid nature and small stature, he gradually earns their respect by devising clever solutions to seemingly insurmountable challenges during voyages and village crises.

His mother, Ylva, consistently supports his intellectual approach more than his father. Halvar, initially valuing traditional Viking strength and bravery, evolves to recognize and rely on his son's ingenuity. Key relationships include neighbor Ylvie, portrayed as his most ardent supporter and sometimes featuring a childhood crush dynamic. Gilby, the physically strongest boy in Flake, serves as his primary rival, marked by ambition and intellectual inferiority, leading to frequent clashes and jealousy. Crew member Faxe shares a close, protective brotherly bond with him.

His problem-solving process features a recognizable physical mannerism: rubbing both sides of his nose and then underneath it, followed by a moment of thought, a finger snap, and an exclamation ("Got it!"). This signifies formulating a solution, often involving creative applications of observation, logic, and resourcefulness rather than force. He demonstrates an insatiable curiosity about the world beyond Flake and a strong desire to accompany the Vikings on voyages, viewing them as essential learning experiences despite initial paternal reluctance.

Across official media, his core role remains consistent: using wit to aid the Vikings. In the original animated series, this involves resolving voyage dangers, outwitting adversaries like the pirate Sven, mediating crew conflicts such as between Snorre and Tjure, and helping other communities. The 2013 animated series remake maintains his fundamentals – a physically weak but intellectually gifted boy proving his worth to Halvar's crew – alongside dynamics with rival Gilby and cousin Ylvi, and his signature thinking gesture.

Feature films further test his intellect. In the 2009 live-action film, he undertakes a significant journey to rescue his father, confronting Sven and other dangers. The 2019 CGI film, "Vic the Viking and the Magic Sword," sees him confronting a magical crisis when a cursed sword turns objects, including his mother Ylva, into gold, navigating mythological challenges involving Norse gods Odin, Thor, and Loki to find a cure.
