Description
Maraihi, also known as Maraich, is an 18-year-old former assassin linked to the International Diamond Syndicate. Born to noble parents who died in his infancy, he was orphaned and placed in a German boarding school. There, an older student named Sherman groomed and assaulted him, initially presenting himself as a caring figure. After escaping, Maraihi encountered Count Duran du Larken, the Syndicate's second-in-command. Larken took him in, trained him into a lethal assassin, and dubbed him "The Angel of Death." Maraihi also became part of Larken's harem, enduring further grooming and an abusive romantic and sexual relationship.

At 18, Larken ordered Maraihi to assassinate British MI6 agent Jack Bancoran at a costume party. The attempt failed, prompting Larken to threaten abandonment unless Maraihi succeeded in a second mission. During this follow-up, Bancoran—one of only two people (alongside Patalliro) to recognize Maraihi through his disguises—detected him when Maraihi blushed in his presence. Bancoran coerced a confession, an encounter that ignited Maraihi's intense love for him. Maraihi then betrayed the Syndicate and defected to Bancoran's side.

He entered a relationship with Bancoran and moved into his London flat. Their bond is tumultuous, marked by frequent arguments over Bancoran's habitual infidelity. Maraihi often reacts violently, physically attacking Bancoran, though their connection endures. Despite being biologically male, Maraihi experienced two pregnancies by Bancoran. The first, in manga volume 10, ended in miscarriage during a fight with one of Bancoran's former lovers. The second, in volume 46, resulted in their son Figaro's birth via cesarean section. These pregnancy arcs were excluded from the anime adaptation.

In live-action adaptations (stage plays and film), Maraihi's role diverges: he assumes the combined parts of characters Jada and Junior (Bjorn), scheming to trick Patalliro into stealing a painting and planting a bomb to kill him. Here, Patalliro—not Bancoran—is his initial target, and their relationship begins with love at first sight, culminating in a romantic garden encounter and song. Despite these changes, the conclusion mirrors the source material, featuring a kiss between Maraihi and Bancoran and Maraihi questioning his future.

Maraihi wields knives expertly and masters diverse weapons. His appearance enables convincing female disguises, breached only by Patalliro and Bancoran. He exhibits fierce jealousy toward anyone drawing Bancoran's attention. His manga appearances drastically diminish after volume 80.

In the *Patalliro Saiyuki!* spin-off, he is reimagined as Genjou Sanzou, retaining his core traits and combative prowess within the *Journey to the West* parody framework.
