Description
Kotake Tetsuya is a classmate of Doremi Harukaze at Misora Elementary School, sporting tan skin, round steel blue eyes, and spiked dark blue-black hair. He typically wears a white or yellow shirt with a purple collar and sleeves, marked by a magenta or red number 9, paired with denim pants, a purple belt, and red sneakers with white accents.
A nice and well-liked individual, he stands as a bold and confident leader among his male peers. His primary passion is soccer, and he is a dedicated member of the school's team. Kotake frequently teases Doremi, calling her by the nickname "Dojimi," a behavior stemming from a crush and his uncertainty in expressing such feelings. Beneath this exterior lies a kinder side he tries to conceal, often becoming flustered when caught performing considerate acts, particularly for Doremi or other girls. He has purchased items Doremi makes despite mocking them and has given her meaningful gifts, including his soccer ball for her birthday.
As time passes, he matures significantly, and his habit of teasing Doremi lessens. In the final episode of *Ojamajo Doremi Dokkaan!*, he indirectly confesses his feelings in an effort to coax her from a sulking mood, stating that everyone, including himself, loves her even if she is a klutz.
The narrative continues in the light novel *Ojamajo Doremi 16*, set during their middle school years. In the eighth grade, Doremi gives him a written confession. He does not respond for approximately 18 months, which Doremi interprets as rejection, leading her to cut her hair and creating a strain in their relationship. It is later clarified that the delay was not a rejection but a result of him needing time to formulate his reply. He eventually apologizes for the delay and tells her he will give his final answer at Japan's national soccer championships, encouraging her to attend.
By their freshman year at Misora High School, he is a talented player on the school soccer team. Their relationship continues to develop, and they officially become a couple two years after Doremi's initial confession in the eighth grade.
In the English dub, *Magical Doremi*, the character is renamed Todd Washington. His personality is altered to be more consistently jerkish, with his underlying romantic feelings for Doremi removed. His teasing is portrayed as more mean-spirited, and he calls her by the nickname "Dopey" instead of "Dojimi."
Earlier in the series, he had an idol crush on their classmate, Onpu Segawa. It is also noted that at one point in his childhood, he was shorter than Doremi.
