Hamano Iwashi is the father of the main character, Asari, and an executive at a large company. He is the head of a household that includes his wife, a graduate of an elite university, and their two daughters: Asari and her older sister. Within this academically driven family, Iwashi maintains a poor relationship with his younger daughter, an ordinary girl who faces frequent scolding over her grades and is teased relentlessly by her more accomplished sister.
