Description
Takeshi Yamato starts his journey as a Japanese wrestler, deeply marked by a childhood trauma: his sister Miyuki suffered a crippling leg injury when hit by a car while retrieving a ball he asked her to fetch. This tragedy fuels his initial drive to amass wealth for her medical care. After a devastating defeat by blue-skinned assailants who merge into a colossal insectoid being, Takeshi seeks out the yogi Deva Datta in India for training. Soldiers fatally shoot him during this quest, but Deva Datta revives him, subsequently imposing brutal physical and mental trials high in the mountains.

Under the sage's tutelage, Takeshi communes with elemental forces and embraces the "Warrior of Love" philosophy, witnessing Deva Datta's pacifism on a battlefield where resurrected soldiers return to fight. He masters seven unique transformations called "Dashes," each linked to cosmic and elemental energies: Dash 1 (yellow, Moon) manipulates size and generates storms; Dash 2 (red, fire) wields pyrokinesis; Dash 3 (blue, water) commands hydrokinesis and adapts for aquatic life; Dash 4 (green, wood) controls air and plant life; Dash 5 (gold, metal) harnesses electrokinesis and flight; Dash 6 (brown, earth) manipulates terrain; Dash 7 (white, Sun), his primary form, unleashes solar beams, projects energy shields, flies, and paralyzes foes. A mid-series upgrade unlocks fusion states, merging Dash 7 with two other Dashes to wield all three power sets concurrently.

Returning to Japan, Takeshi confronts the Die-Die Gang (Shine Shine Dan), a terrorist cell led by the embittered Mr. K seeking vengeance for Japan's WWII actions. The group deploys cyborgs, sorcerers, and monsters. These battles carry intense personal stakes, with repeated assaults on his family—especially Miyuki—by adversaries like the sorceress Iguana. His father, Ichiro Yamato, presumed dead, reappears as Mr. K's captive. Briefly revived by Takeshi, Ichiro dies fighting the Die-Die Gang. Takeshi faces vulnerability: temporary blindness from gunfire and reliance on a healing trance leaving him exposed. His emotional depth surfaces through frequent tears and anguish over family tragedies.

The 1982 anime adaptation repositions Takeshi: he commands the giant robot Rainbow Seven to protect Earth from Emperor Dongolos's alien invasion. This version maintains his elemental connections but channels his powers through mechanized combat.

The saga concludes with Takeshi foiling missile attacks orchestrated by Mr. K, though the antagonist escapes. Miyuki departs abroad after successful leg surgery, while Takeshi, missing her farewell, remains vigilant against threats like the DAC armada. His story ends unresolved, riding toward the horizon as he braces for conflicts yet to come.
