OVA
Description
Demitri Maximoff, a noble vampire exiled from Makai, was banished to the human world approximately 100 years ago after challenging its ruler, Belial Aensland, for power. Following his defeat, his castle, Zeltzereich, manifested in the mountains of Romania, visible solely during full moons. Gravely wounded, Demitri created a protective field shielding his castle from lethal sunlight. Confined primarily to his coffin for 50 years, he emerged monthly to hunt humans for sustenance, specifically preferring virgins with type AB blood. Those he bites become his loyal vampire thralls; roughly 40 such servants reside within Zeltzereich.
Over decades, Demitri regained approximately 80% of his power, enabling him to withstand cloudy daylight through a protective aura. His planned return to Makai was delayed upon detecting Pyron, an alien entity invading Earth. Seizing the opportunity, Demitri consumed the weakened Pyron to augment his strength. Returning to Makai, he discovered Belial had died, with rulership passing to his daughter, Morrigan Aensland. As Demitri prepared to challenge Morrigan for control of Makai, his castle was pulled into the dimensional realm Majigen by the noble Jedah Dohma. Believing an alliance with Jedah strategically vital, Demitri sought him out, though their encounter's outcome remains unknown.
In conflict, Demitri exhibits arrogance and a power-hungry nature, viewing humans as inferior beings existing only for sustenance. He admires beauty, including his own, and employs hypnotic abilities to enthrall human victims. He maintains a rivalry with the Van Helsing vampire-hunting clan and respects Dracula as the vampire king. His powers encompass flight, transformation into bats, summoning supernatural bats for attacks, and the Midnight Bliss technique which transforms opponents into female versions. He also turns others into vampires under his thrall. Sunlight remains his primary weakness, capable of destroying him if his protective aura fails.
His castle bears the German-derived name Zeltzereich, suggesting a Transylvanian location within the Carpathian Mountains. However, his portrayal as "Romanian" contains historical inaccuracies. His name "Demitri" is an Americanized Russian variant, not Romanian, and his attire reflects French Baroque styles inconsistent with 14th–15th century Romanian nobility. The concept of a unified "Romania" did not exist during his implied lifetime.
Within the Majigen conflict, Demitri engages in a power struggle against Morrigan while confronting Pyron's forces attacking his castle. His overarching goal remains the conquest of Makai, leveraging his accumulated power and strategic cunning.
