Description
A human samurai named Bishamon discovered a cursed suit of armor, Hannya, and a blood-drinking sword, Kien, in an antique shop. Compelled by an unseen force, he seized the artifacts from the shop owner, later remembering nothing of the act. Ignoring his wife Orin's desperate pleas to discard them, his fixation grew until he donned the armor. Hannya's corrupting power overwhelmed him instantly. Using his last fragment of free will, he screamed for Orin to flee, saving her life as the armor took full possession.

Under Hannya's control, Bishamon waged relentless killing sprees, driven by the armor's demand for sacrifices and the sword's thirst for blood. Hatred and darkness consumed his mind, though flickers of his former nobility lingered beneath the curse.

His path altered during a confrontation with the cosmic entity Pyron. Pyron's energies disrupted the armor's hold, briefly freeing Bishamon. Haunted by his atrocities, he sought redemption alongside Orin. They embraced lives as ascetic monks, practicing the discipline Roppoudou to purify their minds and spirits during a journey across Japan, finding peace and clarity.

Years later, Bishamon discovered ancient texts in a temple detailing Makai, a demonic realm. These texts revealed Hannya and Kien originated as creations of a Makai beast serving Jedah Dohma, entering the human world centuries prior. Fearing others might fall victim, he resolved to seal the artifacts back in Makai. He meditated in a remote mountain, honing his spiritual power to access the demon realm.

Meanwhile, Hannya and Kien, now autonomous, gathered residual spirits to form a new body and resumed their hunt. Drawn into the Majigen dimension, they were intercepted by Bishamon before claiming more victims. He successfully sealed them away, halting their corruption. Bishamon subsequently vanished from record, implied to have returned to tranquility with Orin.

In the animated series *Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge*, Bishamon appears in the second episode, "Blood of Darkness, Power of Darkness." Here, fully possessed by Hannya, he serves as an antagonist confronting the dhampir hunter Donovan Baine, embodying the armor's bloodlust and combat prowess without reference to his redemption.

A distinct iteration, Oboro Bishamon, appears in later games as a purified variant. Having mastered the armor's evil, he controls Hannya instead of being enslaved. This version lacks the fiery souls associated with standard Bishamon and can don or remove the armor at will.
