Description
Christopher Chiaki is a half-Japanese, half-American man in his mid-twenties who has repeatedly failed his college entrance exams. His days are spent practicing kendo and visiting his family’s shrine, and he remains interested in attending his high school reunion.
His spirit is drawn into the parallel world of Byston Well, while his physical body stays on Earth. There, he is summoned as the legendary holy warrior Garzey’s Wing to help free the enslaved Metomeus tribe. He wields a mystical power that sprouts great wings of light from his ankles, granting him flight and heightened speed.
This spiritual form shares a single consciousness with his Earth-bound self. They communicate through a shared necklace. Injuries in one world are felt in the other; training on Earth strengthens his abilities in Byston Well.
He begins with no combat experience, relying on a dull sword taken from a corpse. He must learn to survive in a hazardous world filled with slave owners, the King’s army, and ancient War Beasts.
Using modern knowledge from Earth, he creates strategies and tools like explosives and fuses to assist the Metomeus. He trains in Chi exercises on Earth to improve mental focus and control, enhancing his power in Byston Well.
In that world, he forms key bonds with the priestess Hassan, who summoned him; the warrior Leelince; and the fairy-like Ferario guide, Falan Fa. On Earth, his close friend Rumiko Nakato offers steadfast support and believes his story without doubt, as do his other friends.
He leads the Metomeus on a pilgrimage to the Baraju Tree while evading enemies, wrestling with his dual existence and the ethics of rebellion. Through these trials, he grows from a uncertain young man into a resolute leader, crucial to saving the Metomeus kingdom.
In the end, his spirit stays in a saved Byston Well, while his physical body on Earth permanently gains the powers of Garzey’s Wing.
