Etsumi Kido is a human student attending the same school as her best friend, protagonist Kaede Minami (Katie). Etsumi's life and background are firmly rooted in the ordinary human world; she never discovers the existence of mugloxes or the fairy realm, despite the magical events involving Kaede.
