TV-Series
Description
Shigeki Amano is a world-renowned pianist and composer whose pursuit of international music opportunities leads him to leave his wife Kotoe Amano and daughter Misao Amano. This absence profoundly affects his family, creating a void central to Misao's feelings of loneliness and envy towards her friend Sasami Kawai's stable family life. These emotions indirectly contribute to the emergence of Misao's alter ego, Pixy Misa. Shigeki's choice to prioritize his career stands in stark contrast to Ginji Kawai, Sasami's father, who selects family proximity over professional advancement.

Portrayals of Shigeki and Kotoe's separation vary across media. The *Magical Project S* television series depicts an amicable parting, with mutual longing expressed during his absence. Conversely, the original *Pretty Sammy* OVA and novel adaptations present a contentious separation, marked by marital disputes witnessed by Misao and Kotoe's lasting resentment, particularly triggered by Misao's piano practice reminding her of Shigeki. The novels emphasize Kotoe's bitterness, while the OVA notes Shigeki's "mysterious disappearance" and reputation as an eccentric genius.

A dedicated composer, Shigeki writes an unfinished piano piece titled "Misao" for his daughter before departing, which she often plays to feel connected to him. During a brief return in *Magical Project S*, Shigeki attempts reuniting with his family. However, Misao's forced transformation into Pixy Misa and the ensuing chaos involving a "Hyper Love-love Monster" disrupt their meeting. Amid the crisis, Shigeki rushes through the city to find Kotoe; their embrace destabilizes Pixy Misa's control, halting her rampage. Despite this, Shigeki departs again without seeing Misao, later discovering her note expressing a desire to see him. He responds by completing the "Misao" composition.

In the series' resolution, Misao performs the completed piece at a school festival. With assistance from Sasami (as Pretty Sammy) and Washu Kobayashi, Shigeki is located overseas and returns just in time to attend. After the performance, he confesses to Kotoe his self-perceived failure as a father, reconciles with Misao, and hears her reaffirm her aspiration to become a pianist like him, marking a positive shift in their relationship.

Outside the *Tenchi Muyo!* franchise, the *Battle Programmer Shirase* continuity references Shigeki working abroad in a "trade-related job," omitting his musical fame or family abandonment. Here, he serves as the primary breadwinner, resulting in a happier family dynamic. A version of him is implied in *Sasami: Magical Girls Club*, though unnamed and unseen, with Misao Shinohara alluding to both parents being present, suggesting a less strained family structure. Shigeki favors roses, a trait noted by both Kotoe and Misao. His legacy as a composer persists across continuities, influencing Misao's musical talents and emotional journey.
