Description
Tsumurin is a snail character in the Shizuku-Chan universe, uniquely the sole main character not originating as a droplet sprite. His international name is Shelly, reflecting his species. Visually, he appears as a pale yellow snail with reddish-orange-tipped antenna stalks and eyes positioned directly on his face, differing from real snails. He sports a colorful round shell featuring blue, yellow, and pink hues and frequently wears a dark blue bowtie beneath his face.
Personality-wise, Tsumurin is well-meaning, humble, honest, and generally cautious, with a tendency toward cowardice and risk aversion. He consistently strives to assist the raindrop sprite Shizuku-Chan, though he often fails to comprehend Shizuku's unconventional behavior. This shared confusion fosters a particular bond with Uruoi-Chan, as neither fully grasps the quirks of Shizuku or Mirumiru-Chan.
In relationships, Tsumurin holds the distinction of being Shizuku's first friend. Beyond Shizuku, he maintains friendships with Uruoi-Chan and Mirumiru-Chan. His family includes a younger sister, Maimai, also a snail, and an aunt named Hydrangea-san, paradoxically a duck. Romantically, he develops a crush on Koyuki-Chan initially, later shifting to Rosé-Chan. A notable incident involves a rabbit doll named Rabi containing a devil; Tsumurin makes eye contact with it under the moon, resulting in the devil possessing him.
While lacking sprite-specific powers, Tsumurin exhibits notable physical abilities. He demonstrates surprising strength and speed for a snail, using his rear end or foot to grasp objects. Distinctively, he can remove his shell, occasionally doing so during naps.
Tsumurin's media presence evolved significantly. He debuted solely in the anime, absent from the initial manga, leading to a copyright dispute between Q-LiA and TMS Entertainment/Sega. Consequently, the *Picchipichi Shizuku-chan* series replaced him with a near-identical character, Denden. This dispute appeared resolved by approximately 2012. Tsumurin made a cameo under his proper name alongside Koyuki-Chan in Volume 16 of the manga, then became a main character starting in Volume 18. In the human-reimagined spin-off *NiJiRo Fairy Shizuku-chan*, he wears a uniform with blue nectar and possesses tactile senses in his head.
