Description
Dokurobei, also known as Dokurobey or Dokurobee, proclaims himself the god of thieves and leads the enigmatic Dorombo gang. He hails from the Dokuro planet (later Planet XYZ), arriving on primordial Earth when it was molten magma. The intense heat shattered his body into four fragments scattered across the globe. Stranded for eons, he crafted a legend: the Dokuro Stone (or Skull Stone) served as a map to a vast gold deposit. This myth manipulated others into seeking his scattered pieces.

He recruits the Dorombo gang—Doronjo, Boyacky, and Tonzura—offering half the treasure for retrieving the fragments. He communicates via disguised robots or devices (like food or animals) that explode after delivering messages, often injuring the gang. Despite providing faulty information causing failures, he consistently metes out punishment for their shortcomings. This punishment involves a distinctive musical cue from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and the declaration that it is "worse than their mama."

In the 1977 series, his appearance remains hidden for most of the story. He eventually reveals a decoy human form: a short, portly man with glasses, a handlebar mustache, a skull emblem on his forehead, and purple attire. His true form emerges as the reassembled Dokuro Stone. Once whole, he abandons the Dorombo gang and returns to his home planet, leaving them with nothing.

The 2008 remake alters his goals to collecting five Dokuro Rings. He initially claims the rings grant wishes, later admitting he planted them recently as part of a scheme to drain Earth's inhabitants of hopes and dreams for power. This version introduces his grandson, Dokubon, and shows marginally more complexity: he displays flickers of genuine affection for Dokubon and implies returning to Earth out of fondness for the Dorombo gang after abandoning his plan. He later fabricates a quest for 50 rings to maintain contact with them.

The spin-off *Yatterman Night* acknowledges both original and 2008 timelines. Having conquered Earth as "Lord Yatterman," he establishes the tyrannical Yatter Kingdom to spite the original heroes. This iteration depicts a ruthless ruler consumed by revenge, growing to colossal size during a final battle before being destroyed by resistance fighters descended from the Dorombo gang.

The OVA *Time Bokan: Royal Revival* features him posing as "Togurobei," manipulating the Dorombo gang into retrieving the Tonguro Stone. He then punishes them despite their success, upholding his pattern of capricious cruelty.

Across all media, Dokurobei's personality blends egotism, deceit, and volatility. His treatment of subordinates fluctuates between harshness and occasional comedy, with adaptations varying his motives—from a stranded alien seeking reunification (*1977*) to a power-obsessed tyrant (*Night*) or a figure capable of fleeting camaraderie (*2008*). His tactics consistently involve exploitation, misinformation, and elaborate ruses centered around skull-themed artifacts.
