Description
Ryūji Gondō hails from a yakuza family, placing him in direct rivalry with protagonist Ranmaru Ōmi due to opposing clan loyalties. His profound hatred for Ranmaru is rooted in Ranmaru's politically arranged marriage to Kaoru, the woman Ryūji has secretly loved for years. This jealousy drives much of his antagonism.

Though outwardly self-absorbed and merciless, Ryūji harbors a complex sense of loyalty and moral awareness. He demonstrates this by sometimes intervening to aid Ranmaru in critical moments, revealing an understanding that rescue must occasionally supersede rivalry. His appearance features black hair, black eyes, and a habitual association with smoking.

An unexpected layer of Ryūji's character emerges in his reaction to Ranmaru. Explicitly identified as heterosexual and devoted to Kaoru, he nonetheless experiences a fleeting moment of attraction toward Ranmaru, adding nuance to their conflict. This temporary temptation exists despite his primary romantic focus remaining firmly on Kaoru.

Within the story, Ryūji serves as a secondary antagonist whose actions directly challenge Ranmaru, intensifying the central conflict through both clan rivalry and personal resentment over the marriage. His role consistently supports narrative functions across documented materials, without significant evolution or expanded backstory.
