Description
Born October 2, 1985, in New York, African American shaman Chocolove McDonnell (Joco) endured his parents' murder on Christmas 1989, forcing him onto the streets. He rose to lead the Shaft gang. On Christmas 1998, he murdered Camel Muntzer, deepening his hatred for humanity due to the grim echo of his parents' fate. While brooding, he encountered the shaman Orona, who tried jokes to lift his spirits. Threatening Orona with a gun, Chocolove watched the shaman dodge the bullets and land a punch, revealing his spirit Mic the Jaguar. Chocolove laughed at Orona's dream of saving the world through laughter, forging a bond. Orona took him as his successor, starting shamanic training along the East River.
Six months later, Orona was beaten by Chocolove's former gang. Mortally wounded by Lulu's gunshot, Orona passed his dream to Chocolove, urging him to reject anger. Honoring this, Chocolove reformed his gang, dedicating himself to becoming both Shaman King and a comedian, believing laughter could heal the world.
Competing in the Shaman Fight as part of Team "The Ren" with Tao Ren and Horokeu Usui, Chocolove advanced to the main tournament in America. Facing Hao Asakura's Team "Tsuchi-Gumi," he freed spirits controlled by Peyote Diaz using his "Gag Wind" and "Ayers Rock Sunrise" techniques, forcing them to laugh and breaking Peyote's hold. Exhausted by the effort, Ren finished the match.
Searching for his former gang, Chocolove discovered them murdered by Redseb and Seyram Muntzer, Camel's vengeful children. They shot Chocolave, sending him to Hell. There, he trained under Orona's spirit and gained a second guardian ghost, Pascual Abaj. This allowed him to create the armor-type Over Soul "Jaguarman" by merging Pascual with Mic. Returning to life, he defeated the Muntzer siblings. He had chosen blindness to atone for his past sins, heightening his other senses.
As one of the Five Elemental Warriors, Chocolove's furyoku peaked at 197,500, the highest in the group. His powers centered on wind manipulation. During the invasion of the Patch Tribe's Plants, he battled Thalim in the Ocean Plant. To counter Thalim's scent-based attacks, Chocolove stabbed his own nose to rely on the smell of blood. He dissolved Jaguarman, merging Mic and Pascual with the air itself, unleashing erosive winds that destroyed Thalim's plant-based Over Souls. Though victorious, Chocolove noted Thalim was not at full strength.
In the final Plant of the Universe, he joined the other warriors against Hao. After Hao became Shaman King and initiated human eradication, Chocolove and the elemental warriors confronted him within the Great Spirit, wielding the Five Grand Elemental Spirits. Chocolove's Spirit of Wind, gained in this arc, generated winds at 120 m/s with 900 HPA pressure, enabling techniques like "God Breath Hurricane" and, combined with the Spirit of Rain, "Ice Age".
Seven years later, in *Funbari no Uta*, Chocolove appears at age 22, continuing his comedy career. He reunites with his teammates at the Funbari Hot Springs, fulfilling a long-held promise.
