Description
Bernard "Bull" Shott commands the relentless hunt for the wolf Gray, driven by vengeance after Gray kills his prized show dog, Bo. He initially accuses Gray of also killing the wolf's owner, Russet Clagg, fueling his pursuit. Shott mobilizes a hunting party, coordinating extensive wilderness searches. He authorizes deceptive tactics like recorded wolf howls to lure Gray into an ambush. When Gray escapes this ambush wounded, Shott escalates the threat by proposing poison, forcing Russet and Gray to flee north toward Nicolet National Forest.

Shott's group lays leg traps, successfully capturing Gray after the wolf kills a calf. Though Shott's hunters and hounds nearly corner Gray and Russet near a beaver den, the pair evades them. Shott persists in his mission until the hunt's conclusion. In an anime-specific departure, Shott demonstrates development: after Gray reaches sanctuary and joins a wild pack, Shott speaks with Russet and abandons his mission, allowing Gray to live. His physical appearance in the anime is modeled after the sheriff character from the unrelated Disney live-action adaptation of the source material.
