Description
Kanna Bismarch entered the world on October 26, 1977, in Germany, heir to the main Bismarch family line. Unconscious spirit channeling during infancy caused her to vomit ectoplasm, trapping her within the family castle throughout childhood. Her worried parents summoned countless European exorcists, clerics, and priests, all failing to cure her. Despite her affliction, Kanna felt cherished by her parents until their mysterious fatal accident. Lawyers and relatives then seized her inheritance, leaving her penniless. At her lowest point, Asakura Hao appeared and burned the castle down with everyone inside who had wronged her, granting her freedom and fulfilling her unspoken wish. This act marked the start of her journey as Hao's shamanic follower.

Recruited into Hao's group, Kanna took charge of the younger orphans Marion Phauna and Matilda Matisse, forming Team "Hana-Gumi". She fiercely protected them, famously threatening Bill Burton with death if he touched any member. Her unwavering loyalty to Hao stemmed from his rescue during her despair, aligning her with his goal to eradicate humanity, a race she openly despised alongside many followers. She expressed particular disdain for children.

Kanna displays a serious, reserved nature with limited patience, easily provoked to anger. Though outwardly cold and sarcastic, she harbors deep care for Marion and Matilda, acting as their older sister. She maintains a more mature dynamic with Marion, striving to be a positive example, while enduring Matilda's antics despite frequent irritation. Her significant cigarette addiction persists despite support from friends, especially Marion. Her spirit ally, Ashcroft, prevents severe health consequences like cancer or lung damage, but she suffers withdrawal symptoms—aggression, headaches, and desperate cravings—alongside periodic coughing fits and stomach agitation.

Her shamanic powers include spirit perception, enabling her to see and interact with spirits beyond normal human limits, and spirit channeling, physically manifesting spirits using ectoplasm—a visible spiritual energy smoke exhaled from her body. This ectoplasm can restrain people, manipulate objects, and form an Over Soul. Her primary guardian ghost is Ashcroft, the spirit of a medieval knight loyal to the Bismarch family, who materializes through her cigarette smoke. Ashcroft exhibits chivalry, addressing her as "Milady," and employs techniques like "Burst Joust," piercing targets with a lance before expanding smoke within them. Ashcroft also demonstrates high-speed combat skill and form manipulation.

During the Shaman Fight tournament with Team "Hana-Gumi," Kanna reacted violently with her teammates to unsettling dolls created by Kaizer-T of Team "T-Production," defeating him and his withdrawn comrades. Later, against Team "The Ren," Kanna battled Tao Jun and Lee Pyron. Pyron shattered Ashcroft's ectoplasm-bound armor, forcing Kanna to reveal cigarette smoke as the knight's true medium. After decisively overpowering Jun and Tamao Tamamura, the team attempted a killing blow intercepted by Asakura Mikihisa. He effortlessly dismissed Ashcroft, admonished Kanna for smoking and its impact on future childbirth, and prompted their retreat after Magna intervened.

Kanna, Matilda, and Marion were later killed by Peyote Diaz but resurrected by Lady Sati. This experience led them to defect from Hao and support Yoh's faction against Hao's remaining followers. Post-tournament, Kanna completed high school alongside Marion and Matilda. Six years later, the trio became waitresses at the Funbari Onsen, collectively known as the Hana-Gumi Waitresses. Manager Tamao Tamamura frequently reprimanded them for smoking indoors and skipping work, occasionally threatening them with Dai Tengu for discipline. During this time, they encountered Asakura Hana and his cousins; Kanna noted the impending "Flower of Maize" event and their combat readiness, their presence alone intimidating Asakura Luca into fleeing. Later, they assisted Johann Faust VIII in treating the injured Tao Men using Soul Integration techniques. Kanna also lent her motorcycle to Alumi Numbirch for travel to Satoya-mura.
