Masquerade rose as a primary antagonist serving the destructive Bakugan Naga within the Doom Beings organization. A Darkus attribute brawler, his core mission focused on seizing powerful Bakugan and exiling defeated opponents to the Doom Dimension, fueling the evolution of his Guardian Bakugan. He discarded his initial partner, Darkus Reaper, banishing it after recognizing greater potential in Darkus Hydranoid. Masquerade relentlessly pursued Hydranoid's evolution into the ultimate Bakugan capable of securing the Infinity Core for Naga. His appearance featured a distinctive purple and blue visor mask shaped like a Bakupod. He wore a white cape-like coat fastened by chest straps but open at the waist, revealing a blue shirt and upper chest armor plating. Purple jeans secured by multiple belts with circular buckles, upward-styled blond hair, and heeled boots adorned with straps and buckles completed his look. Masquerade embodied ruthlessness, power obsession, and a win-at-all-costs mentality. He demonstrated manipulative and borderline amoral behavior in battles, frequently deploying Doom Cards to exile opposing Bakugan without remorse. He even banished his own Bakugan, like Reaper and Laserman, to advance Hydranoid's evolution, rationalizing these actions as necessary for survival and absolute loyalty to Naga's will. This personality starkly contrasted with his host, Alice Gehabich. Masquerade originated as a split personality within Alice, created when negative energy from the Silent Core affected her through her grandfather Michael Gehabich's dimension transporter. Alice remained unaware of this alter ego, experiencing unexplained time lapses and location changes coinciding with Masquerade's appearances. Throughout the first season, Masquerade manipulated victims like Tatsuya and the JJ Dolls into using Doom Cards. He recruited top-ranked global brawlers—Klaus von Hertzon, Chan Lee, Julio Santana, Komba O'Charlie, and Billy Gilbert—often through deception or brainwashing. He repeatedly battled Dan Kuso and the Battle Brawlers, culminating in a decisive defeat by Dan. This loss triggered a significant shift, leading Masquerade to renounce his methods and aid Dan against the Gatekeepers Centorrior and Druman in Vestroia's Pyrus/Darkus sector. Following this alliance, Masquerade removed his mask, revealing his identity as Alice's alter ego, gave his evolved Darkus Alpha Hydranoid to Alice, and disappeared as his mask crumbled. His ultimate fate remained ambiguous, though reintegration with Alice was suggested. Masquerade resurfaced internally during Alice's confrontation with Shadow Prove in New Vestroia. Alpha Hydranoid acknowledged his lingering presence, cautioning Alice against weakness. Alice experienced visions of Masquerade during the battle, drew upon his confidence to challenge Shadow Prove, and ultimately defeated the opponent with his internal support, indicating a potential ongoing connection between Alice and the Masquerade persona. His traits as a masked antagonist who later reformed and sought the ultimate Bakugan influenced subsequent characters like Spectra Phantom.
