Skyress serves as Shun Kazami’s loyal guardian partner, a phoenix-like Bakugan of the Ventus attribute. Originally gifted by Shun’s mother for his protection, this origin forged profound loyalty and a protective bond toward her brawler. Physically majestic, Skyress boasts a large wingspan, sharp tail feathers, and enhanced vision. Her defining power is resurrection, akin to a phoenix rising from ashes, enabling recovery after defeat.
In combat, Skyress employs strategic abilities reflecting her calm, noble nature. Key techniques include "Green Nobility - Violent Winds," boosting her power by 100 Gs, and "Winds of Fury," which reduces an opponent’s G-Power with multiple Ventus allies present. Her anime base G-Power starts at 360 Gs, while physical toy variants range from 250–550 Gs across attributes like Subterra, Pyrus, and Aquos. Toy versions feature a distinctive "jumping" mechanism activated during rolls.
Skyress evolves into Storm Skyress during a pivotal moment when Shun embraces reliance on friends, triggered by his tear falling on her ability card. This transformation increases her size, wingspan, and G-Power to 450 Gs. A blade-tipped tail replaces her feathers, and her signature ability shifts to "Destruction Meteor Storm," adding 100 G-Power. Evolved, she defeats Oberus, Vestroia’s Ventus Legendary Soldier.
Early in the New Vestroia conflict, the Vexos capture and petrify Storm Skyress. After liberation, she chooses to remain in New Vestroia as its guardian instead of returning to Earth, passing her role to Ingram. Later, during the Mechtanium Surge era, she aids in defending New Vestroia against Mechtavius Destroyer, destroyed alongside allies. This fate is reversed via time manipulation, restoring her to New Vestroia.
Notably, Skyress is the first and only female Bakugan to defeat Drago in combat. She shares key parallels with Drago: both guide their human partners, mirror their personalities (calm/composed versus hot-headed), and possess names reflecting their attributes ("Sky" for wind). Unlike Shun’s later partners, she lacks a humanoid form until successors like Skytruss and Orbeum. Linguistic variations exist: the Dutch dub portrays Skyress as male, while the Japanese version names her "Phoenix."
