Description
Daisuke Kusuriya, alias Kakkō, serves as a primary protagonist. At age 12 during *Mushi-Uta Bug* events and 16 in the main storyline, his abandonment in childhood fuels a relentless quest for belonging, intensified by the unknown fate of his sister Chiharu, whom he links to certain individuals.

He possesses dark hair reaching his eyebrows. For Special Environmental Protection Bureau operations, he dons resin-strengthened fiber combat gear and a lightweight black coat resistant to extreme temperatures, paired with knee-high soft metal boots, leather gloves, and large goggles with obscured lenses that hide his eyes. Synchronizing with his Mushi reveals green and black patterns tearing through his coat sleeve on his right arm.

His Mushi, Kakkō, is a First-Class Fusion Kashu-Type. It bonds with his firearm and body, amplifying the weapon’s range and destructive power while granting superhuman strength, speed, and resilience. This power exacts a toll: stronger manifested bullets drain more of his dreams and life energy. Years before the main story, under SEPB orders, he eliminated the Mushi of Shiika Anmoto (Fuyuhotaru), pledging to fulfill her dream—though he fails to recognize her upon their reunion.

Joining the SEPB three seasons prior to the main events, he operates as Inspector squad enforcer Kakkō, feared among hosts as one of the strongest for neutralizing high-risk targets. His duties clash with his growing attachment to Shiika, torn between protecting her and capturing her for the SEPB. This turmoil crystallizes in a promise to meet her at a planetarium the next Christmas, symbolizing his commitment to her dream.

In the spin-off *Mushi-Uta Bug*, set after Shiika’s transformation into a Fallen, he monitors Arisu Ichinose, who inherited the Morpho Butterfly Mushi from her deceased friend Hanashiro Mari. Initially cold and dismissive of Arisu’s investigations, he shares living quarters with her. Despite his detached, tsundere demeanor—chiding her recklessness—he repeatedly risks his life to shield her. Arisu, though harsh toward him, fiercely contests his belief that his death would be meaningless, showing deep concern for his safety.

Alongside Arisu, he confronts the enigmatic Original Three. Inspired by her resolve to end the Mushi conflict, he joins a pivotal alliance including Ladybird and Harukiyo to challenge an Original, marking a shift toward collective action against the Mushi phenomenon’s source.

His journey remains anchored in the search for belonging. He clings to winter, feeling cold air reaffirm his will to live, and voices anguish over his power’s cost and yearning for connection—fearing he might harm those he cares for. His evolution traces a path from isolated enforcer defined by duty to an individual driven by personal bonds and shared dreams.
