TV-Series
Description
Kododa Kouji serves as the human alias for Coco, a fox-like fairy and prince of the Palmier Kingdom. Coco fled his destroyed realm after his best friend, Nats, was tricked by the organization Nightmare into enabling their invasion. In the human world, he adopted the identity of Kouji, a teacher at L'École des Cinq Lumières, to search for the Dream Collet and the 55 Pinkies needed to restore his kingdom and free the imprisoned Nats.
His fairy form features beige fur, a salmon-red head tuft, blue eyes with black lashes, and a fluffy tail; he often ends sentences with "~coco." As Kouji, he appears tall with short brown hair, wearing practical clothing like shirts, trousers, and sneakers. Maintaining this human form requires significant effort, limiting its use. Kind and trusting by nature, Coco becomes strict or angered by recklessness. He fiercely prioritizes protecting those he cares about, especially the Pretty Cure team and his kingdom's citizens.
Coco first encounters Nozomi Yumehara after sensing her potential to become a Pretty Cure. He reveals his fairy form when she discovers the Dream Collet, guiding her in assembling the five-member team. He mentors the Cures throughout their mission to collect Pinkies and battle Nightmare. His bond with Nozomi deepens into mutual romantic feelings, though he hesitates to confess, anticipating his eventual return to Palmier. Captured during a mission in the Mirror Kingdom, Coco is freed when Nozomi kisses him to break Nightmare's mind control, solidifying their connection.
After defeating Nightmare and restoring Palmier, Coco returns as king. Facing the new threat of Eternal in *Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo!*, he protects the targeted Cure Rose Garden, gains the ability to summon Cure Fleurets, and wields the Palmier crown's power. He rejects Princess Crepe's romantic advances, clarifying their childhood engagement was a cultural misunderstanding, and reconciles with the fairy Syrup, whom he previously failed to help.
Years later in *Kibou no Chikara ~Otona Pretty Cure '23~*, Coco struggles to balance royal duties with his feelings for Nozomi, now a teacher. Fearing their responsibilities preclude a future, he initially distances himself. Sensing her in danger from Shadows—monsters born from negative emotions—he intervenes, leading to renewed collaboration. After Nozomi recovers from a coma induced by overusing her Cure powers, Coco confesses his love and proposes. They marry shortly after, with Coco continuing his kingship while supporting Nozomi's life in the human world.
Coco's relationships drive his development. His bond with Nats evolves from strained distrust to restored friendship after Nats's liberation. With Nozomi, their relationship progresses from allies to spouses, marked by mutual protection and shared sacrifices. The name "Coco" combines with "Nats" to form "coconut," reflecting the palm-themed Palmier Kingdom, while "Kokoda Kouji" is a Japanese wordplay meaning "I am Coco," with "Kouji" signifying "well-being" and "history."
