Funakoshi serves as a supporting character in the OVA adaptation. He is a psychic specializing in resolving supernatural disturbances. When a poltergeist possesses protagonist Ichitaro after his guardian spirit Hyakutaro fails to act, Funakoshi intervenes. He performs an exorcism that successfully expels the entity. This resolves the immediate crisis but leaves Ichitaro deeply troubled by his severed connection with Hyakutaro. The event directly prompts Ichitaro to seek out another mystic for help in restoring his bond with his guardian spirit.
