Hisashi Matsubara, paternal uncle to Ryoji Matsubara, offers his nephew lodging while balancing a demanding career that consumes most of his time. Frequent work-related absences leave little room for familial engagement, and on the rare occasions he returns home, he gravitates toward solitary relaxation—often sprawled on the sofa with a chilled beer—rather than connecting with his wife, Kasumi, or their daughter. His habitual physical and emotional distance fosters tension within the household, particularly unsettling Kasumi, though he remains oblivious to the repercussions of his detachment. This dynamic inadvertently shifts responsibility toward Ryoji, who steps into a more active supportive role during Hisashi’s prolonged absences.
