Genjou Kakouton is Kyoshou Academy's main fighter, Moutoku Sousou's right-hand man, and closest friend. He shares a deep bond with Sousou and Hokou Kakuka, a trio of ordinary individuals before the school conflicts began. Kakouton has dark skin, long black hair, a goatee beard, and typically wears sandals, a beanie, and a green coat. His personality is highly energetic with a strong emphasis on martial fundamentals, frequently yelling "basics" in combat and scorning fighters who abandon core street fighting principles. This dedication earns him the nickname "Basics Ton-chan" from Hakufu Sonsaku. Kakouton shows tactical caution and a sense of honor, notably repairing property damage after fights, viewing battlefields as sacred ground needing maintenance. He studies civil engineering, aligning with this habit. Initially serving partly as comic relief, Kakouton receives advice from Goei Sonsaku during the Great Toushi Tournament on defeating Hakufu by targeting her legs; he succeeds with Goei's distraction. This fuels rumors about his preference for mature women, which he denies despite harboring a crush on Hakufu. Mutual respect defines his early encounters with her: she saves him from a knifing during a skirmish with Yoshu fighters, and he later reminds her of combat fundamentals. A pivotal shift occurs in Dragon Destiny when an assassin working for Seito gouges out Kakouton's left eye with a concealed needle during an attack on Sousou. This injury triggers Sousou's dragon to awaken and kill the assailant. Profoundly affected by Kakuka's subsequent death, Kakouton receives orders to launch a sneak attack on Nanyo Academy. He reluctantly agrees but insists on executing it "his way," reflecting his personal principles. His grief manifests as anger when suspecting unauthorized actions by Chuutatsu Shibai or Myousai Kakouen, though he refocuses upon learning of Seito's involvement in Kakuka's demise. Kakouton's loyalty drives critical decisions later in Dragon Destiny. Recognizing Sousou's escalating violence due to the dragon's influence, he releases Unchou Kanu to alleviate Sousou's inner turmoil. This act leads to a confrontation where Sousou, fully possessed by the dragon spirit, accuses Kakouton of weakness and betrayal. Their battle reveals the controlling spirit; Sousou breaks Kakouton's hand before the conflict fades to black. Kakouton survives but is later found alone on a bench by Kaku, stating he is searching for his friend Sousou while reminiscing about their past with Kakuka. The injury leaves his hand disfigured. In Great Guardians, Kakouton suffers amnesia. He encounters the similarly amnesiac Housen Ryofu, and they travel to the condemned Kyoshou Academy. After an ambush and rescue by Hakufu, fragments of his past return; he fully recovers his memories when Hakufu reminds him of his repair kit's significance. He defeats Myousai Kakouen, declaring his intent to find his own path back to Sousou. Due to his hand injury, he cannot participate in the "fighters tournament" during Xtreme Xecutor. In this arc, he envisions Kakuka in Sousou's place and provides Hakufu with a boat and sword for rescuing allies. Kakouton is officially ranked C-Class, though observers like Koukin Shuuyu note his capability to contend with Special A-ranked opponents. He commands respect from fighters across Nanyo, Seito, and Kansai schools. Following Kakuka's death and his own injuries, his role transitions from active combatant to strategic advisor and second-in-command for Kyoshou, supporting Sousou from a more restrained position.
