In the manga's Introductory Arc, Gakushuu challenges Hakufu Sonsaku, initially gaining advantage by hurling her against a wall after absorbing her kick. He later collapses from a latent muscle relaxant technique she deployed. Ryomou Shimei, an A-ranked fighter in a maid outfit, overwhelms him with a full-moon choke hold. During the Big Four Arc, Gakushuu confronts Genpou Saji after Saji defeats Koukin, warning that Saji’s overconfidence invites downfall and questioning his behind-the-scenes schemes. Gakushuu visits the hospitalized Koukin to clarify post-defeat events. In Hakufu's Broken Spirit Arc, he dismisses Ryomou’s victory over Shimei as a fluke, insisting an E-ranked fighter could never legitimately achieve it. The anime’s first season depicts Gakushuu fighting Hakufu, initially enduring her attacks until delayed damage from her kick immobilizes him. Ryomou decisively defeats him, inflicting severe arm injuries. He pressures Koukin and Hakufu into a tournament, losing his first match to an opponent’s underhanded tactics. Suspecting a meeting with Enjutsu, Gakushuu trails Kouha Kannei to a boiler room but is knocked unconscious by Saji. At a Big Four meeting, Saji exposes Seito’s role in provoking Kyosho, prompting Gakushuu to investigate Seito’s motives. In the Battle of Red Cliffs, he duels Koumei Jokou. The pair match evenly until Gakushuu slams Jokou against a steel girder to overpower him.
