Movie
Description
Dr. Kouzaburou Nambu serves as an Interpol executive and International Science Organization member. He personally created the Science Ninja Team to fight the terrorist group Galactor, recruiting and training each member himself. Nambu constructed the crescent coral reef base, designed for ocean conservation and self-defense, arming it with weapons such as super bird missiles. He possesses the authority to deploy Interpol troops or the Red Impulse team when the Science Ninja Team is unavailable.
His background includes fighting alongside Kentaro Washio in a global conflict; Kentaro later faked his death to infiltrate Galactor as Red Impulse. After Ken Washio's mother died, Nambu became Ken's guardian, raising him alongside another ward, Joe Asakura. Galactor murdered Joe's parents during his childhood; Nambu rescued him, faking Joe's death and renaming him for safety. Nambu later recruited Jun and her adopted brother Jinpei from an orphanage, and scouted Ryu Nakanishi after Ryu saved him from a whirlpool near a fishing village. This formed the core Science Ninja Team, with Nambu funding their operations and developing their bird-themed technology and martial arts techniques.
From the crescent coral base, Nambu oversaw the team's operations, providing strategic guidance and technological support. He developed their signature vehicles, including the God Phoenix spacecraft equipped with advanced weaponry like bird missiles; this craft could transform into a flaming phoenix for offensive maneuvers. Nambu also designed the team's transformation devices, communication systems, and individualized weaponry such as Ken's birdrang and Joe's grappling-hook pistol.
His relationship with the team extended beyond professional oversight, particularly with Ken, whom he raised. This dynamic sometimes led Ken to challenge Nambu's orders. The International Science Organization knew of Nambu's affiliation with the team but remained unaware he had raised several members. Nambu eventually assumed Director Anderson's position within the organization.
In the movie, Nambu coordinated the Science Ninja Team against Galactor's Turtle King mecha and their leader, Sosai X. Later, during the events of Gatchaman Fighter, Nambu was killed. However, he left behind a mysterious reincarnation device, suggesting preparations for his potential return.
