Ash's Gliscor began as a Gligar in a wild flock trapped within a city by altered wind patterns, forced to steal food for survival. This particular Gligar was notably clumsy, fearful, and struggled with flight due to acrophobia. When Paul captured the flock's leader Gliscor, the remaining Gligar panicked until this Gligar helped coordinate them during Ash and his friends' rescue. After the flock's release, the Gligar chose to stay with Ash, leading to its capture.
As a Gligar, it displayed a cheerful yet emotionally sensitive personality, often expressing affection through physical contact like crashing into Ash. It was easily frightened during battles, crying when confronted by intimidating opponents or scolded. A significant weakness was its inability to maintain eye contact, exacerbating its fears. Its acrophobia caused frequent falls requiring rescue. Gary Oak suggested using a Razor Fang for evolution to overcome these fears. During a crisis where Ash dangled from a broken bridge, Gligar used the Razor Fang to evolve into Gliscor, saving Ash and conquering its fear of heights.
Post-evolution, Gliscor retained its affectionate and somewhat childish traits, including exaggerated winks, tongue displays, and crash-landing on Ash. It developed a competitive spirit, enjoying battles against opponents like Gym Leaders and Sinnoh League competitors. Despite increased confidence, it remained emotionally expressive, crying when upset or reprimanded. It struggled with powered flight, relying mostly on gliding and having difficulty taking off from flat ground in still conditions.
In battles, Gliscor learned several moves. It mastered Fire Fang after being hit by an Ice Shard, using this move to defeat Byron's Bastiodon by attacking from behind. It later learned Giga Impact during air battle training with McCann, an Air Battle Master who recognized its potential after a series of losses. Ash left Gliscor with McCann for further training, during which it also learned Stone Edge. For the Sinnoh League, Ash recalled Gliscor, where it defeated Paul's Drapion using Fire Fang but was ultimately overwhelmed by Electivire due to exhaustion and poison from Toxic Spikes.
After the Sinnoh League, Gliscor resided at Professor Oak's laboratory. It reappeared during Ash's visit in the "Pokémon Journeys" series, assisting in training Sirfetch'd for the Master Eight Tournament. Known moves include Sand Attack, X-Scissor, Steel Wing, Fire Fang, Giga Impact, Stone Edge, Screech, Guillotine, Swords Dance, and Poison Tail.
