Infirmière Joëlle, known internationally as Nurse Joy, belongs to the Joy family, a group sharing the surname Joy confirmed in the Diamond & Pearl episode "Drifloon on the Wind." These relatives serve as nurses across multiple regions. In Sinnoh, one Nurse Joy operates a Pokémon Center alongside her family. She is married to a Valley Windworks employee and has two daughters: Marnie (elder) and Paige (younger), both aspiring nurses who assist her. This Joy is distinguished by the unique color of the cross emblem on her nurse's cap. Her responsibilities extend beyond Pokémon healing to mentoring her daughters, managing the household, and coordinating community aid like delivering medicine to injured Pokémon in nearby forests. During a storm-induced power outage caused by Team Rocket's sabotage of the Valley Windworks, she instructed Paige to stay at the Center for safety while she investigated. When Paige disobeyed and was swept away by strong winds while riding a Drifloon, Nurse Joy participated in the search and rescue alongside her family and Ash's group. Her family maintains a relationship with the Legendary Pokémon Suicune, residing near their Center. Both daughters consider Suicune a friend, and it intervened to rescue Ash and Paige during the storm. She wears the standard Sinnoh Nurse Joy uniform: a Mexican-pink dress, white apron, and flat white shoes. Outside Sinnoh, other Nurse Joys perform identical roles: healing Pokémon, managing Centers, and sometimes judging Pokémon Contests and Grand Festivals. One Kanto Joy used her own Pikachu for emergency power during a Team Rocket attack. An Orange Archipelago Joy directed an expedition studying Kabuto fossils. Another, employed by the Pokémon Inspection Agency, assessed Gym eligibility in Dark City.
