Takeshi's Sudowoodo began its journey as a Bonsly discovered in the Hoenn region. This infant Pokémon exhibited species-typical traits, often crying when hungry or distressed and requiring attentive care via baby bottle feedings before transitioning to Pokémon food. Its early personality blended infant vulnerability with unexpected battle agility, strategically deploying Fake Tears to gain an edge in confrontations. Key early experiences included forming a rivalry with James's Mime Jr. during a film incident where both used Double-Edge and Mimic, and forging a friendship with an injured wild Nuzleaf after Brock provided treatment.
Evolution struck during a Team Rocket encounter in "Leave It to Brocko!". Trapped alongside the injured Nuzleaf, Bonsly used Double-Edge to break free, triggering its transformation into Sudowoodo. Immediately, the newly evolved Pokémon displayed its Rock-type nature, showing a pronounced fear of water. It visibly avoided water while escaping with Nuzleaf, prompting Brock to intervene and prevent a fall. In its first battle as Sudowoodo, it defeated James's Carnivine using Mimic, Double-Edge, and Flail, demonstrating its growth as a capable fighter. The episode concluded with Sudowoodo bidding farewell to Nuzleaf.
Post-evolution, Sudowoodo adopted a calmer, more determined demeanor compared to its infantile Bonsly phase, though it retained the strategic use of Fake Tears in battle. It became a cornerstone of Brock's team, effectively utilizing moves like Double-Edge, Hammer Arm, Low Kick, and Flail. Its Rock-type vulnerabilities, particularly to Water-type attacks, remained consistent. Sudowoodo participated in significant battles, confronting Sinnoh Frontier Brain Salvia's Scizor and later aiding Brock in Alola against Olivia's Midday Form Lycanroc. During the Alolan clash, Sudowoodo collaborated with Lycanroc to dismantle a Team Rocket mecha, using Low Kick after Lycanroc initiated with Rock Slide.
After Brock ceased active travel post-Sinnoh, Sudowoodo resided at Pewter City Gym under Forrest's care. It supported Forrest during his gym leader qualification battle. Though absent from "Pokémon Journeys", Sudowoodo reappeared alongside Brock in the Sun & Moon series, confirming its continued place on his team. Its known move set encompasses Double-Edge (learned as Bonsly), Flail, Mimic, Fake Tears, Hammer Arm, Low Kick, and Fake Out, reflecting techniques from infancy to mature battle strategies.
