Description
Teana Lanster is a human mage from Midchilda, born in 0059. Her parents perished during her childhood, leaving her in the care of her older brother, Tiida Lanster. Tiida served in the Capital Air Force but died on a mission when Teana was ten. He failed to capture a wanted mage and was posthumously ridiculed by superiors who deemed him a failure for not sacrificing his life. This motivated Teana to restore the Lanster family's honor and prove the effectiveness of their bullet-based magic style. Her goal became to become an enforcer like her brother.
Initially enrolling in air combat training to follow Tiida's path, Teana dropped out after failing to join the Capital Air Force. She later enrolled at the Fourth Ground Forces Academy, partnered with Subaru Nakajima due to both possessing custom devices. Their relationship started contentiously, Teana expressing irritation at Subaru's impulsiveness and initially rejecting friendship. After learning about Subaru's past through her sister Ginga, Teana softened, began using Subaru's first name, and developed a deep, enduring bond. Both graduated top of their class, passing D and C rank mage exams on their first attempt. They joined the Ground Forces' Battalion 386, specializing in disaster relief, and were frequently paired for complementary skills.
Teana joined Riot Force 6 (RF6) but struggled with feelings of inadequacy compared to more powerful members. On an early mission, she disobeyed orders to hold a defensive line and launched an offensive against Gadget Drones, nearly hitting Subaru. This failure led to intense self-doubt and overtraining. She devised a risky strategy for a mock battle against Nanoha Takamachi, which failed; Teana attacked Nanoha in frustration, leading to her being knocked unconscious. During recovery, Nanoha revealed her own past near-crippling injury and expressed high expectations for Teana, having planned to place her in charge of the Forwards. This confrontation resolved misunderstandings, Teana apologizing and recommitting to training. Her combat effectiveness improved significantly after integrating illusion magic, and she formed strong camaraderie with fellow sharpshooter Vice Granscenic. During RF6's invasion, her illusions enabled the Forwards' escape from Combat Cyborg attackers. In the final battle, she defeated Numbers Nove, Wendi, and Deed, later telling Nove that Subaru exemplified how artificially created beings could live meaningful lives. Teana and Subaru then aided in rescuing Nanoha, Hayate, Reinforce Zwei, and Vivio from the Cradle before its destruction. Following the JS Incident, Nanoha taught her the Starlight Breaker spell. In April 0076, Teana began training as an Executive Officer Assistant (second aide) to Fate Testarossa under the Administrative Bureau Main Office.
By Sound Stage X (two years post-StrikerS), Teana had become an independent Executive Officer with a rank equivalent to 3rd Captain. She led the investigation into the Mariage incident involving awakened Ancient Belka artifacts, assisted by Runessa Magnus. Discovering Runessa was the incident's mastermind, Teana arrested her. During this incident, she used Starlight Breaker to aid Subaru and Ixpellia's escape.
In ViVid, Teana appeared as Subaru's best friend, confirming Einhart Stratos' intentions toward Vivio and Ixpellia before accompanying her to the police station. Later, she participated in a training camp in Carnaaji, engaging in mock battles. During a team battle, she served as Center Guard for the Red Team against Nanoha. Their duel culminated in a mutual Starlight Breaker exchange defeating most opponents; Teana survived but was knocked out by Vivio. Subsequent matches featured her opposing and later teaming with Nanoha. She made brief appearances in ViVid Strike! during a lunch gathering.
In Force, Teana, now an Executive Officer, collaborated with Fate Testarossa and Shario Finieno. She participated in operations to confiscate smuggled goods, including the Bible of Silver Cross and a Divider weapon, though initially unsuccessful. Investigating an attack on Easter, witness testimony confirmed Eclipse carriers wielded these items, leading Teana to pursue links to the Hückebein family. Transferred to Ruwella, she assisted Signum against Hückebein member Cypha. A photograph indicated a prior connection to Touma Avenir.
Personality-wise, Teana initially displayed insecurity and a desperate need to prove her family's magical legacy. Blunt and reserved, she struggled to open up but valued close friendships deeply. Her relationship with Subaru involved persistent irritability masking profound gratitude and loyalty, feelings she concealed to avoid unsettling Subaru. Over time, she evolved into a confident leader, leveraging tactical acumen and illusion proficiency.
Magically, Teana used the Mid-Childa system with orange magic circles. Her rank rose from B (Ground, StrikerS) to AA (post-StrikerS) and later S (Ground, ViVid). Her primary device was Cross Mirage, a pair of handguns enabling diverse shooting techniques. Early in StrikerS, she used Anchor Gun before upgrading. In Force, she employed Oxtongue. Her specialties included shooting spells and illusion magic, with rare ambidextrous capability noted. She also demonstrated telepathy.
In alternate continuities like INNOCENT and Brave Duel, Teana appeared as a gentle, gun-shooting enthusiast. In INNOCENT, she was reimagined as Subaru's seven-year-old classmate, often staying with the Testarossa family where her sister Rynith worked. Her Brave Duel avatar utilized Cross Mirage for evasive illusions and gunner-style combat.
