TV-Series
Description
Zafira, sometimes spelled Zafila due to transliteration differences, originates as a creation of the Book of Darkness. He serves as a unique guard beast, one of the Wolkenritter (Cloud Knights), bearing the title "Guard Beast of the Shield" or "Blue Wolf." His existence is intrinsically tied to the Book and later to his mistress, Hayate Yagami, lacking a traditional familiar's contract. He manifests as a large blue wolf wearing silver gauntlets on his paws and can shapeshift into a muscular, dark-skinned humanoid form featuring wolf ears, a tail, and indigo-white magical energy.

In *Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's*, Zafira battles protagonists Nanoha Takamachi and Fate Testarossa. Masked assailants defeat him during the Christmas Eve incident, absorbing his linker core, though Hayate later resurrects him. Post-incident, he registers with the Time-Space Administration Bureau (TSAB) alongside the other Wolkenritter in May 0066. Alph teaches him a puppy form to conserve mana and blend in on Earth, though he initially feels discomfort at the attention it draws from children. During Nanoha's recovery from severe injuries in 0067–68, he aids her mobility, echoing his earlier support for Hayate's rehabilitation.

During *StrikerS* (0075–76), Zafira serves in Hayate's Riot Force 6 unit. He frequently provides mission backup and watches over Vivio. While defending the Long Arch during an attack on the TSAB Public Press Conference, he and Shamal are overwhelmed by Otto and Deed; Zafira sustains severe injuries shielding Shamal. Regaining consciousness days later, he rejoins Vice Granscenic in combat, aiding Otto's capture in the final battle. Post-*StrikerS*, he assists Battalion 108 and Ginga Nakajima in investigations. On his days off, he teaches local children martial arts, eventually founding the Yagami Dojo in southern Mid-Childa to instruct neighborhood children in "Yagami-style" Strike Arts. Students like Miura Rinaldi compete in martial tournaments under his guidance.

In *ViVid*, Zafira continues operating the Yagami Dojo, training children who compete in events like the 0079 DSAA Intermiddle Championship. In *Force*, his role is minimal, appearing briefly alongside Shamal. In the movie continuity (*Reflection* and *Detonation*), set in summer 0067, his knight clothing features slightly evolved design, notably using Caledfwlch-made gauntlets as combat equipment during battles against Kyrie Florian's group. He provides tactical support during attacks, such as at the Allston Sea theme park.

In the alternate continuity spin-off *INNOCENT*, Zafila is reimagined as a pet wolf belonging to the Yagami family, residing around Old Bookshop Yagamidō and popular among local children. During "Brave Duel" game events, he transforms into a humanoid form specializing in defensive capabilities; his specific device remains undefined.

Zafira's combat abilities emphasize defense and physical prowess. His humanoid form excels in close-range Striker Arts, while his wolf form utilizes fangs and claws. His knight clothing includes heavy gauntlets and boots designed by Hayate to enhance defense. Known spells include defensive barriers like *Panzerschild* and capture techniques like *Steel Yoke*. In video games (*The Battle of Aces*, *The Gears of Destiny*), his moveset includes skills such as *Raging Steel Fang* and *Guard Fist*.

Personality-wise, Zafira is consistently calm, taciturn, and serious, speaking sparingly. Despite initial reservations, he interacts with children through community activities and martial arts instruction. His loyalty to Hayate and the Wolkenritter remains unwavering across all continuities.
