Its core purpose is serving human royalty, leading to a bond formed with Princess Syalis after she accidentally broke its seal within the Demon Castle's underground library. The immense power recorded within its pages prompted demons to seal it away for centuries.

Physically, Alazif manifests with a youthful appearance: tan skin, olive green eyes featuring distinctive star-shaped pupils, and pale blue hair styled with chin-length sideburns. Its attire includes a teal cape secured by a gold ring, a gold chest plate with an orange center, gold arm bangles, and a unique teal hat adorned by a red tassel and a closed eye symbol. As a spirit emerging from its grimoire form, it possesses legs though rarely reveals them.

Its personality is bright yet cautious, marked by deep animosity towards demons. Initially, Alazif hoped Princess Syalis would use its magical knowledge to escape the Demon King's castle, but this expectation often leads to disappointment. The princess primarily exploits its powers for elaborate sleep-related endeavors. Unable to wield magic independently, Alazif must channel spells through its wielder, frequently watching its formidable magic expended on trivial or unconventional purposes like crafting sleep aids.

Key narrative events include Alazif teaching Syalis a potent sleep spell that inadvertently put the entire castle to sleep except herself. It later provided her with texts on human pressure points, triggering demonic misunderstandings about her intentions. The grimoire spirit developed an unexpected rapport with Cubey, a succubus resembling Syalis, who appreciated its knowledge. During the "Grimoire Rhinitis" incident, Alazif's sneezes accidentally transported Syalis and an ally through time. This created an alternate timeline where the Demon King adopted authoritarian policies after Syalis stole a futon intended for Alazif by the Demon Cleric. Resolution came when Syalis returned the futon and clarified the Demon King's value to his subordinates.

Alazif sustains itself by preying on other grimoires, tearing and consuming them. Its preferred food is steamed monster bird egg custard. Among demons unaware of its true nature, it occasionally garners a reputation as a "scary and powerful demon." The character's name derives from "Kitab al-Azif," the purported original title of the Necronomicon within H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.
