Description
Moerumba functions as a secondary antagonist for the Dark Fall organization, a fire elemental guardian of the Fountain of Fire tasked with confronting Cure Bloom and Cure Egret after Karehan's defeat.
His design draws inspiration from Latin American dance, particularly female samba performers of Brazilian carnivals. He wears a crimson bodysuit with a bra-top extending to a waist belt, accented by green flame-like armor swirls at his boots and elbows. Bright orange hair evokes fire and carnival headpieces, contrasting with purple-white skin, orange-red eyes, darker red eyebrows, and pointed ears adorned with green diamond earrings. Purple lipstick appears in close views. Following revival by Goyan, sections of his green flame armor become black, and he adds Goyan's marking as a purple hairband. He manifests an elemental fire spirit form with a twisted, laughing face.
Personality-wise, Moerumba exhibits a flamboyant, feminine demeanor, frequently dancing and peppering speech with Spanish or Portuguese phrases like "olé," "señor," "señorita," and "cha-cha," alongside English expressions such as "come on" and "it's show time." As a fire elemental, he battles impulsively. He displays romantic interest in Karehan through flirtations, which Karehan rebuffs due to elemental incompatibility. Despite friction, Goyan notes their potent combat synergy. Moerumba also teams effectively with Kintoleski, who shows concern for his safety. His dynamic with Ms. Shitataare reveals unexpected synergy, coordinating attacks despite opposing elements; they even perform as a "villain girl group" in spin-off media, wearing carnival costumes.
Moerumba's arc starts with capturing Flappy and Choppy to find the Fountain of Sun. He ambushes the protagonists while Mai comforts Minori, summoning Uzaina monsters often themed after sea creatures or cooking. After repeated failures, he escalates to deploying two Uzainas simultaneously. Warned by Goyan of Akudaikan's impatience, he threatens to drown Choppy and Flappy in the ocean. Cure Bloom and Cure Egret ultimately defeat him with their Twin Stream Splash attack, dissolving him into his elemental state.
Goyan later revives him using stolen Fairy Charafe. Reunited with Karehan, they nearly overwhelm the Cures until internal disputes over credit prompt Goyan to recall them. In his final battle, Moerumba allies with Kintoleski to pursue defectors Michiru and Kaoru. Cornered near the ocean and rendered vulnerable when his powers are nullified, the Cures eliminate him permanently using their Spiral Heart Splash attack.
Trivia identifies him as the franchise's first fire-themed character and first villain incorporating Spanish/Portuguese language. His name derives from Japanese "moeru" (燃える, "to burn") and Cuban dance "rumba." Some interpretations suggest he represents the series' first LGBT character due to his flamboyance and explicit romantic pursuit of Karehan. He appears in crossover media like *Pretty Cure All Stars DX 2* with other Splash Star villains and features in a bonus manga performing alongside Ms. Shitataare, Regine, and Viblis.
