Description
Nyanma functions as the series' primary antagonist for most of its run. Originally known as Chocolat, the Spirit of Cats, she was excluded from the Eto Rangers. This exclusion stemmed from disqualification during the race determining Ranger membership, a disqualification orchestrated by the evil entity Bagi. Bagi deceived Chocolat with a false vision suggesting Princess Aura permitted an early start, causing inadvertent cheating and subsequent disqualification. This manipulation fostered deep resentment towards Princess Aura, perceived as betrayal.
Exploiting this resentment, Bagi offered Chocolat power for revenge, transforming her into Nyanma, the Queen of Evil-Spirited Monsters. Commanding from a seafloor fortress, she directed Jyarei Monsters to corrupt Novel Worlds—realms born from human stories—by twisting their narratives. This corruption endangered the worlds and threatened to destroy the Novel Pole connecting Mugen to the heavens.
Nyanma created four elite feline subordinates—Gōsen (white cat), Gen'en (black cat), Rōran (blue cat), and Juken (red cat)—to execute her schemes. Her tactics involved disguising subordinates as characters within Novel Worlds, impersonating figures like the king in *Puss in Boots* or manipulating stories such as *The Wolf and Seven Lambs* to appear as *The Three Little Pigs*.
Her past connection with Gaō, the Tiger Eto Ranger, added complexity. During confrontations, Gaō recognized Nyanma as Chocolat. He attempted to defeat her under a "The Only One Allowed to Defeat You" code, but illusions of their shared past distracted him, allowing her to land critical strikes.
Nyanma's deep-seated grudge intensified upon encountering Bakumaru, the Mouse Eto Ranger leader, whom she bullied before her transformation. His ailurophobia, originating from her past actions, became a weakness she exploited. However, Bakumaru overcame this fear through Gaō's mentorship, triggering Nyanma's psychological breakdown when her intimidation failed.
The narrative revealed Bagi, the Jarei God, as the true mastermind behind Nyanma's corruption. In the climax, recognizing her manipulation, Nyanma turned against Bagi. In a final act of redemption, she sacrificed herself to protect the Eto Rangers during the confrontation with Bagi, directly opposing her former master.
