Their cases expose them to *mikura*—mechanical blood-draining demons—and Hinaru, a survivor marked by these entities.

Sagisaka’s determination to clear his institutionalized daughter Yoshiko, accused of delusions involving yōkai, and Hinaru’s harrowing testimony gradually pull Kure into Tokyo’s shadowy underworld of supernatural threats. Their pursuit culminates in Eko’s catastrophic plot to annihilate the city, where Kure confronts the police chief’s metamorphosis into the demon Ushi-oni and the ensuing slaughter of refugees in a besieged shelter.
