Ires Lufard was discovered as a young boy within a vast forest crater by a man called Reglight. Choosing to raise the child, Reglight became a surrogate father, and the pair lived together as itinerant peddlers.

While traveling to the town of Gramnoah, they crossed paths with a Tempest magic user named Juan Millworth. Mistaking them for bandits, Juan attacked. Reglight defended them with his Sougu, a weapon conjured from thought. After the fight, a black light consumed Reglight. As he vanished, his final words instructed Ires to "Visit Oldman in Gramnoah."

Spurred by this loss, Ires set out for Gramnoah to find his missing father. He inherited a strange black cube left behind by Reglight, an object tied to the enigma of Cube energy, the power source used to manifest Sougu weapons.

His journey led to another clash with Juan in a town, halted by the intervention of a woman named Raika Yuzurugi. She subsequently joined Ires as a traveling companion.
