OVA
Description
Lyner Barsett hails from the floating city of Platina high within the Ar tonelico tower. As the son of Leard Barsett, Platina's governor and a prominent political figure, expectations pointed him towards politics. Lyner rejected this path, choosing instead to join the Knights of Elemia, dedicated to protecting Platina under Shurelia's command. This decision created persistent tension with his father, who desired Lyner as his successor. Serving alongside his friend Ayatane, Lyner exhibits impulsive and rebellious tendencies towards orders not coming directly from Shurelia.

Defined by selflessness and a powerful sense of justice, especially concerning Reyvateil mistreatment, Lyner readily risks his life for others without hesitation. His journey commenced when Platina faced an assault by viruses immune to conventional attacks. Tasked by Shurelia to retrieve the Hymn Crystal Purger from the Lower Lands, his airship was attacked during descent, crashing in a forest. There, the Reyvateil Aurica Nestmile healed him with Song Magic before fleeing. Upon awakening, Lyner pursued a dual mission: locate the Purger and repair his airship.

Throughout his quest, Lyner forged crucial alliances. He partnered with Jack Hamilton, a wandering gunman who aided against the Blue Wolves in Cello Forest. Imprisoned by the Tenba Conglomerate, he escaped with help from Misha Arsellec Lune, a Reyvateil claiming to be his forgotten childhood friend. His allies expanded to include engineer Krusche Elendia and church cardinal Radolf Schnaizen. His path involved confronting Tenba's exploitation of Reyvateils, navigating conflicts instigated by the Church of Elemia, and investigating virus outbreaks linked to the rogue Reyvateil Mir.

In combat, Lyner serves as a frontline fighter with balanced stats and versatile physical skills. His abilities encompass wind-based attacks like Impulse, multi-strike techniques such as Double Beat and Break Blade, and the passive skill Shield of Bond, reducing damage when guarding Reyvateils. He is a permanent fixture in the active party. Beyond battle, Lyner displays exceptional talent in Grathmelding (item crafting), mastering complex recipes and crafting essential gear, story-critical items, and advanced technology like miniature reactors despite lacking formal theoretical knowledge.

Lyner evolves from a rash adventurer into a more measured leader. His interactions involve aiding Reyvateils through personal struggles: resolving Aurica's self-esteem issues within her Cosmosphere and supporting Misha's defiance of her tragic fate. He faces critical decisions, such as choosing which Reyvateil sings the Purger hymn, influencing their susceptibility to brainwashing by Mir. Later, he assumes temporary command of Platina when both Shurelia and Leard are compromised. The tension with his father persists until subsequent media depict Leard expressing pride in Lyner's choices.

The OVA adaptation portrays Lyner's crash landing and subsequent partnership with Aurica to locate an engineer in Firefly Alley, indirectly guiding her to harness her Song Magic.
