Initially posing as a concerned colleague, Osanai aids the Chairman in hijacking dreams to inflict psychological terror. Their actions manipulate Kei Himuro into a coma and orchestrate mental breakdowns that nearly cause fatalities, including Dr. Toratarō Shima's attempted suicide. Driven by professional jealousy toward Dr. Kōsaku Tokita—resenting Tokita's intellectual genius and role as the DC Mini's inventor—Osanai simultaneously harbors a toxic obsession with Dr. Atsuko Chiba. Fixated on her beauty and intellect yet intimidated by her professional superiority, he violently pursues Chiba's dream avatar, Paprika. In one confrontation, he captures Paprika, pins her among dead butterflies (implying a history of murdering women as trophies), and peels away her skin to reveal Chiba's unconscious form. He then attempts sexual assault, demanding she conform to his idealized image of Chiba rather than her Paprika identity. Osanai's motivations blend personal ambition with a warped desire for control. He aids the Chairman's goal of "protecting" dreams from technological intrusion to advance professionally, yet his actions primarily serve his ego. By offering his body to the Chairman for physical mobility, he forms a parasitic partnership where both share control. This amplifies his cruelty, manifesting as tree-root tentacles attacking Paprika and taunting Detective Konakawa with traumatic memories. His downfall occurs when Konakawa shoots him in a dream, triggering his physical death and merging dreams with reality to unleash chaos across Tokyo.
