Description
Master Hansel, called Henzeru in Japanese, originates from the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale. Approximately 17 years old, he initially serves the witch Cendrillon as a primary antagonist.
Before encountering Cendrillon, Hansel shared a close, caring bond with his younger sister, Gretel (Erika). They lived peacefully in the Forest of Okashi within a candy house, reflecting his inherent kindness and protectiveness.
Cendrillon's influence corrupts him profoundly. She teaches him dark magic, twisting his empathy into disdain for weakness. This transformation causes him to mistreat Gretel, ignoring her injuries and emotional state. Visible mind-control eyes mark his corruption, a recognized sign of Cendrillon's control. His primary weapon is an oversized sword; he wields it bare-handed initially, later requiring special mittens, suggesting inconsistencies linked to his controlled state.
Within Cendrillon's forces, Hansel repeatedly attempts to capture Souta, the "Key of Erde," often using Gretel's assistance. His driving motivation is gaining Cendrillon's approval, further fracturing his relationship with Gretel, who longs for their past connection.
A pivotal intervention by Akazukin and her allies breaks Cendrillon's mind control. Freed, Hansel reclaims his original protective nature, prioritizing Gretel's safety and well-being. This redemption shifts his allegiance to the protagonists. He transforms from adversary to a supportive figure dedicated to shielding his sister, concluding his arc with a return to familial loyalty.
