Description
R. Ichiro Tanaka is a fifteen-year-old android, the creation of self-proclaimed mad scientist Dr. Nariyuki Narihara. Originally designed to facilitate world domination, R was discarded when his creator abandoned the plan due to excessive effort. He subsequently enrolled himself in Harukaze High School and joined the Photography Club.
Physically modeled after Dr. Narihara's largely unaware son, Akira, R displays distinct robotic traits: rotating his head 180 degrees, detaching hands or feet, and dismounting moving bicycles without stopping. His personality blends naivety, friendliness, and airheadedness, marked by an obsession with eating rice. A unique mechanism involves a screw in his head; tightening it temporarily induces a coolheaded state that fades over time.
At school, R forms relationships with classmates, notably befriending Sango Otojima after she discovers his passion for rice. He integrates into the Photography Club, participating in activities from mundane school events to absurd adventures. He also assumes the role of Kouga Black in the superhero parody spin-off "Kyukyoku Sentai Kougaman."
A significant development occurs when Dr. Narihara constructs R #29 (also named R. Hideko Takamine or "R. Deco"), referred to as R's younger sister. While sharing R's vacant facial expressions, R #29 exhibits greater intelligence and unwavering loyalty to their creator, later becoming instrumental in Dr. Narihara's renewed world domination attempt.
During the OVA storyline, R joins the Photography Club on a stamp tour across Japan, facing club dissolution if they fail to collect all required stamps by a 6:00 PM deadline.
