Sango Ōtojima is a tomboyish and gentle high school student, actively involved in her camera club. She first encounters the android R. Ichiro Tanaka during a club trip to a forest, learning of his strong preference for consuming rice. Initially horrified to discover R enrolled in her homeroom class, her aversion gradually transforms into genuine friendship. Sango possesses an abnormal motor nerve. As the narrative progresses, she develops romantic feelings for R, leading to interpersonal conflicts, particularly with Erika Saionji, who also expresses affection for him. She remains dedicated to camera club activities, playing a significant role in a club-organized stamp tour across Japan undertaken under threat of dissolution if they fail to collect all required stamps by a strict deadline.
