Description
Ohgi Takaya, originally Uesugi Kagetora, is a figure entwined across lifetimes, shaped by psychological fractures and ancestral legacies. Born in the Sengoku period as the seventh son of Hōjō Ujiyasu, he was thrust into the Uesugi clan as a hostage, adopted by Uesugi Kenshin, and renamed Kagetora. His life ended during the Otate no Ran succession war, betrayed and driven to suicide at Samegao Castle. Reincarnated in modern times as Takaya Ohgi, a defiant 17-year-old high school delinquent in Matsumoto, he navigates a fractured family dynamic—divorced parents and an alcoholic father—while resisting the resurgence of his past identity. This denial fragments his psyche, fostering a minor split personality disorder.

Trauma from a gang-rape by Hōjō vassals during his hostage years leaves enduring scars, manifesting as aversion to intimacy. This shadows his volatile bond with Naoe Nobutsuna, his devoted vassal and former lover. Naoe’s guilt over raping Kagetora’s lover Minako—an act that precipitated her death—fuels centuries of unresolved conflict. Their relationship oscillates between obsessive devotion and corrosive guilt, marked by power clashes and near-violent confrontations as Takaya wrestles with trust and selfhood.

As a "possessor," Takaya wields supernatural prowess, exorcising spirits and conjuring energy barriers. Reluctantly embracing his role, he leads the Uesugi Netherworld Force against vengeful feudal spirits seeking to reignite ancient wars. Yet beneath his resolve simmers dread that Kagetora’s soul eclipses his modern identity. Fragmented memories of past lives—including inhabiting Minako’s body before her suicide—intensify this existential struggle.

In the OVA *Rebels of the River Edge*, Takaya confronts the resurgent Ikko sect in Kyoto, clashing with Araki Murashige, linked to his vassal Haruie’s tragic past. The mission underscores his tactical brilliance and moral resolve amid eroding alliances. Later novel arcs depict his psyche fracturing under leadership burdens and Naoe’s emotional manipulations. When Naoe’s soul is damaged, rendering him mortal, Takaya confronts their codependency. Their fraught bond culminates in a desperate love confession before Takaya’s soul is consumed by his powers, halting reincarnation.

Masking vulnerability with defiance, Takaya fiercely protects his sister Miya and friend Yuzuru. His leadership merges Kagetora’s strategic acumen with modern ethics, yet guilt lingers over supplanting the original Takaya’s soul. His journey navigates the clash of historical duty and contemporary identity—a labyrinth of loyalty, trauma, and the quest for self amid echoes of the past.
