Description
Moritsuna Kuroyanagi, born in 1908, was a professional violinist and concertmaster. He married aspiring opera singer Cho Kuroyanagi despite objections from both families. Their marriage produced three children, one being their daughter Tetsuko Kuroyanagi, who later achieved prominence as a television personality and author. The narrative depicts Moritsuna navigating family life amid significant financial hardship, maintaining a positive outlook alongside Cho despite their poverty. His music career was interrupted when conscripted during World War II, forcing him to leave his family for military service. This separation left Cho solely responsible for sustaining the family throughout the war years. Moritsuna Kuroyanagi died in 1983. His legacy as a violinist and family man contributes to the biographical foundation of "Chocchan's Story," which details his wife Cho's experiences, and informs the broader historical context of his daughter Tetsuko's childhood memoir.
