Description
Yotsume, a cunning yōkai owl, operates as Kyūki’s loyal agent within the Four Perils, a faction serving the daiyōkai Kirinmaru. Tasked with espionage and covert manipulation, he discreetly observes pivotal conflicts like the battle against Root Head, transmitting insights to Kyūki via a crystal ball.
His physical manifestations shift across three forms: a four-eyed owl in his yōkai state, an elderly human guise named Sōkyu (masking his forehead eyes beneath a headdress), and a towering gray humanoid with a fifth vertical eye when amplified by Kyūki’s Purple Rainbow Pearl.
A master of subterfuge, Yotsume leverages flight, shapeshifting, and psychological manipulation to advance Kirinmaru’s ambitions. Disguised as a tea ceremony instructor, he coerces a feudal lord into capturing Towa Higurashi, interrogating her about future-era objects like a Reiwa-period book and Kagome Higurashi’s bicycle seat. His ruse unravels when Moroha and Setsuna unmask him, forcing his retreat in owl form.
Empowered by Kyūki’s Pearl, Yotsume merges his dual forms, unleashing heightened abilities to ensnare Moroha and Towa in enchanted slumber. Despite this surge in power, Setsuna’s Scourge of Swallow technique reduces him to ashes. His demise inadvertently reveals Kyūki’s location, catalyzing her downfall.
Beyond direct confrontations, Yotsume aids schemes to resurrect fellow Perils, such as Jakotsumaru’s revival of Tōkotsu. His centuries-long existence spans key historical moments, including the childhoods of Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha.
Exclusive to the *Yashahime* anime, Yotsume’s narrative arc concludes decisively in the first season, absent from subsequent media and the original *Inuyasha* manga.
