Jet Black is a cinematographer and movie theater owner, father to Joe and Jasmine. He originally collaborated with Captain Blue, filming his exploits and showcasing them in his theater to build Blue's fame. During this period, Jet met and married actress Junko; they had their first child, Joe. Jet aimed to show Joe a true hero. Tragedy struck when Jet discovered the cursed Black Film; Junko died in a car accident soon after Jasmine's birth. This twisted Jet's ideals, driving an obsession to obtain the seven Rainbow Oscars. He believed they would grant him control over Movieland and let him become the ultimate hero for Joe. To pursue the Oscars, Jet acquired a Black V-Watch, enabling his transformation into the Black Emperor. He formed the organization Gedow and invaded Movieland after King Blue's defeat. As the Black Emperor, Jet attacked Captain Blue, turning him into a Rainbow Oscar, and declared his intent to conquer Movieland. He manipulated Joe and Silvia into gathering the remaining six Rainbow Oscars. Once secured, Jet revealed his identity, stole the Oscars, absorbed their power, and transformed into Dark Hero Jet Black. He transported himself, Joe, and Silvia to the real world for a final confrontation at the Viewtiful Awards Ceremony. Initially overpowering them due to their lack of VFX powers in reality, public support restored Joe and Silvia's abilities, leading to Jet's defeat. This caused the Rainbow Oscars and the Black Film to leave his body, freeing him from their influence. Captain Blue reverted and explained Jet's history and fall. Jet reconciled with Joe, acknowledging his son's growth as a hero. In the animated adaptation, Jet's arc is similar but omits the Rainbow Oscars. As the Black Emperor, he attempts to spread darkness across Movieland to create "black films" devoid of happy endings. Here, he is explicitly controlled by the Evil King, a malevolent entity that also manipulated Captain Blue. The Evil King sought to conquer the real world by corrupting humanity's dreams through films. After Joe and Silvia defeat Jet, he reverts to normal. The Evil King escapes into reality, forcing Joe to confront it using a "white film" featuring Captain Blue's heroic image. This film, combined with the collective dreams of those Joe aided, destroys the Evil King. Jet notes the Evil King might be the same threat referenced at the game's end. Jet's appearance changes when transformed. As the Black Emperor, he wears modified black samurai-style armor with a crescent-shaped helmet ornament. During his final battle as Dark Hero Jet Black, his armor shifts to an all-white color scheme. His family members all share first names beginning with the letter J.
